Johanna Kindvall is a cook and professional illustrator who explores the world of food (from breads to pickling) as well as pattern design. Originally from Sweden, Johanna’s food interests focus primarily on Nordic cuisine.  Johanna has both written and illustrated several books, and maintains a blog, instagram, Twitter feed, and Facebook page.

Based in Brooklyn, Johanna also teaches classes. They’re terrific. A few years ago, I took a seminar with her on Swedish cinnamon buns (or bullar). We first met back in 2012. Since then she has taught me how to pickle herring, create home-batches of aquavit, as well as prepare various types of Swedish pastries.

Eleven years ago, we invited Johanna to talk about her work with Stir the Pots. The emerging winter reminded me of this wonderful Scandanavian-influenced cook and illustrator. Enjoy our interview.
