I've been to England but somehow could never find English muffins. Whatever their genuine derivation, I'm still a fan. Making these breads at home, especially with refreshed sourdough is easy and worth the effort. Whether baked or griddled it's also fun. Below are shots of a recent batch, just waiting for some eggs Benedict or just butter and jam.
You’re right – no English Muffins in England. They have them in Wales, in Bethesda to be precise: http://thepartisanbaker.com/2015/02/19/have-you-seen-the-muffin-man/
But what’s this? milk, butter, sugar – in English Muffins?
Your Chum,
Mick
Oi! Mick, sugar is barely noticeable, milk softens crumb, as you can see how lovely it is? Welsh I remember were flat bread sort of eaters, so I think this fits the neighborhood.
Ta!
Jeremy
I must say that your muffins look wonderful They are just the right shape and colour. Love the bottom photo with the cut muffin to show how light and fluffy your bake is.
As for your search for ‘English Muffins’ in England I think that I realise your problem. They are not called ‘English’ just muffins. I have eaten muffins many times here in the UK. They are easy to find as most supermarkets sell them in packs of 6. Sometimes they come with cinnamon and fruit. Yumm.
